CorruPlast

CorruPlast is generally sold in 4' x 8' sheets. A sheet of yellow CorruPlast can be purchased for $11 (discounted from $13.22 because Keith, the seller, likes Ron Paul) at the following address (on the east side of the street):

Regional Signs
3571 South 300 West
Salt Lake City, Utah
(801) 262-6451

A sheet of CorruPlast can be cut, either into three signs as shown on the upper right: one 16" x 48" (SMALL) sign, and two 24" x 80" (MEDIUM) signs; or into six 16" x 48" (SMALL) signs as shown on the lower right. This means that a SMALL sign costs about $2, and a MEDIUM sign costs about $5.

Tyvek

I priced a 9' x 150' roll of Tyvek at Home Depot at $147 in Utah County, for making flexible 3' x 9' (LARGE) banners. You can make 50 banners from one 150' roll of Tyvek. Tyvek comes in white only (as far as I know). This means that a LARGE Tyvek banner costs about $3.50.

Billboard Vinyl

Reagan Outdoor Advertising has used 48' x 14' billboard vinyls for $20 apiece for making flexible banners. Because they are used, they may need to be washed. They can be cut into a variety of sizes. The diagram below maximizes the number of 3' x 9' (LARGE) banners from a vinyl from which the hems have been trimmed. It results in 21 large banners, and 7 medium banners. Thus, these banners cost about $1 apiece. If you do not trim the hems from the banner, then you can make five banners per nine-foot length (but fewer mediums).

The purple rectangles represent medium banners; the green rectangles represent large banners.

The following pattern maximizes the number of MEDIUM banners, and is the easiest to cut:

Materials

Get THREE or FOUR cans of BLACK spray paint for every ONE can of RED spray paint. You can use a 12-oz can made by "RUST-OLEUM Specialty" that says it is "Paint for Plastic" for $5 a can at Home Depot. This much paint is enough to spray 12 to 18 signs, depending on how heavily the paint is applied. A single coat is ample (spray lightly, just one or two seconds per letter); you do NOT want the paint so thick that it runs.

Or, you can use a 10-oz can for $1 made by "Quick Color" (a fast-drying, all-purpose spray enamel).

If you want to "clean up" or "touch up" the signs a little bit after painting them (in case smearing, smudging, misting, or overspraying), you will want a can of ACETONE, some paper towels, and probably a protective glove.

"Ron Paul Revolution" signs are MEANT to look HOME-MADE because it fits the r3VOLution theme--anyone can do it. So don't worry much about how it looks (as long as people can read it). People are not going to see minor smudges from a distance anyway!

Stencils

Lowell Nelson has stencils for SMALL, MEDIUM, and LARGE signs/banners.
